“Our unique exhibits, programs and shows at the Museum & Science Center, Planetarium, and Nature Center allow people to cultivate curiosity, giving visitors the ability to explore and experience wonder during every visit,” said Hillary Olson, the president of the RMSC.

This year’s gala theme is Wonder Has No Limits. The theme is a nod to the upcoming permanent exhibit, Wonders of Water, set to open on November 11.

The Rochester Amerks are back on the ice on Friday night. The team’s first game in the 2022-2023 season is at the Blue Cross Arena against the Toronto Marlies. The hockey game starts at 7:05 p.m. You can get tickets and see the season schedule here.

There will be a pre-game roc the block party starting at 4:30 p.m. on Broad Street with a bounce house, face painting, live music, and a bunch of food. Plus, an extended pre-game happy hour with $2 Genesee drafts.

The Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad Museum in Rush is bringing back their Pumpkin Patch Train Rides starting this Saturday. The event runs from October 15-16, then again on October 29-30.

The Hilton High School senior will be performing at two of the RPO’s free “around-the-town” concerts. The concert is on Wednesday, October 26 at Churchville-Chili High School and on October 27 at Hilton High School. Luke also got a one-thousand-dollar scholarship.

Monroe County is holding its first-ever Veterans Day Parade. It’ll be held Saturday, November 12 at the corner of South Goodman and Highland Avenue. It will then proceed to the Gary Beikirch Memorial Park.

The announcement was made on Wednesday. Several local officials were in attendance. Mayor Malik Evans said that, while we can never fully repay the debt we owe our veterans, we can start by celebrating our local service members, past and present.

“When we are safe in our beds, our men and women in uniform are keeping the world safe and keeping America safe so that way, I can stand in this building and say whatever I want to say because there are people on the frontlines keeping us safe,” Evans said.

Longtime radio host Alan “Brother Wease” Levin, who served three tours with the u-s army during the Vietnam War, will serve as the parade’s grand marshal.

Neighbors and local lawmakers keep coming together to find ways to keep the public safe.

The group Vera Action held a town hall on violence at Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives on Thursday. The panel featured Senator Samra Brouk, Assembly Member Demond Meeks, and Assembly Member Sarah Clark.

They broke down what they call community-oriented solutions on public safety. They also talked about criminal justice reform. This is what one organizer had to say about that.

“What we think is more effective in promoting community safety, reducing crime rates, preventing folks from being rearrested, is not necessarily predominantly pretrial detention,” said Jullian Harris-Calvin, the director of Greater Justice New York at Vera Action. “Its taking our resources and figuring out if there is a reason has come into our criminal legal system, let’s see what those drivers are.”

Just this week, we told you about a letter penned by former Mayor Bob Duffy to state leaders. He described the crime in the city as the worst he’s ever seen.

He said that while he supports reforms to the criminal justice system, something needs to be done to keep violent offenders off the streets.
